This year it is 450 years ago that the Eighty Years War Began. These were the years that The Netherlands under the leadership of William of Orange rebelled against the King of Spain, King Philip II. The Rijksmuseum want to show you what the significance is of this war. The works of art and unique object in this exhibition illustrate that without this rebellion and civil war, the violence, terror and oppression, the religious persecution and the massive amount of refugees The Netherlands and Belgium emerged without this ever being the intention when the war began.
Definitely worth visiting I think.
