Hans Christian Andersen born on 2 April 1805 and died on 4 August 1875 was a Danish author, writer of plays, novels, poems and travelogues. But he is best known for his fairy tales. He is not only popular with children. His fairy tales have themes that are interesting for all ages an nationality. Andersen's was a busy man, his works contain no fewer than 3381 works and have been translated into 125 languages. Some fairy tales are more famous than others. The most famous ones are "The Emperor's New Clothes", The Nightingale", "The Little Mermaid", "The Snow Queen", "The Little Match Girl", "The Ugly Duckling", "Thumbelina" and many many others. His work inspired plays, ballets, animated and live-action films.
